Fair/Equal

Now onto the big question, what is better, fair or equal?

lets begin with the definition,

Fair - "free from favoritism, self-interest, bias, or deception"

Equal - "Having the same quality, value, or measure as another"

now, at first glace I automatically choose Fair, because I am a middle class white male, who thinks that people should have to work to achieve their goals.
